Letter: Apologies to all I offended

Posted

There has been a miscommunication and poor choice of some words in my letter from the March 26th Sakonnet Times, to which I “regret” publishing.

To many of you who work, volunteer, donate, and attend events, and felt offended, please accept my sincere apology. With respect, the community center has a lot of balls in the air. Serving the whole community with all their needs. Very tricky to do. More services are needed and our seniors need a senior center to call their own.

The director has an open door policy, which has shown her to be accessible to anyone with any questions and if you didn’t know this you know now.

Check in with her as she works hard and find out what she does, and where she’s heading with the community center, she will tell you.

My frustrations over the last several years has been expressed in that letter. The seniors over the years have come to me in trying to understand what and why these changes are happening and what if anything can be done.

Again, find out for yourself what’s going on at the Little Compton Community Center — I think that it may surprise you, it did me.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
