Letter: Arlene Violet — A hard act to follow

To the editor:
The very first thing I would do when the Sakonnet Times arrived was to go to Arlene Violet's column. If there was not one in that edition I felt cheated, something very important was missing. Now that Arlene has stepped away from producing her column I feel a great sense of loss that should be felt equally by all of us. Arlene was the one person I knew I could rely upon to provide a true account of what politicians, businessmen, clergy and others were up to and why it should be important for us to be aware.

She did this during her tenure as our Attorney General and has been consistently doing so ever since. She kept a close eye on it all and pulled no punches when alerting us to the shenanigans of elected officials, government agencies, businesses, clergy, educational institutions, etc. Her interest was in finding and revealing the facts. I am sure there are many now heaving a huge sigh of relief who have come under her scrutiny in the past and will now see this as a reprieve.

We can only hope that someone with her integrity, knowledge of Rhode Island politics and unbiased advocacy for the truth will come forward to take up the mantle she is laying down. Thank you for all you have done for us, Arlene.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
