Letter: Barn's new owner shares plans with Little Compton

Editor’s note: Pamela Huzienga, the incoming owner of the Barn and owner since last year of Simmons Cafe and Market in Adamsville, shared this update with the community Tuesday morning:

Well, since the cat is out of the bag, I guess I can share some information with you. Hopefully everyone will understand that I have not been able to speak about my plans for the corner in Little Compton while working on a deal with the owners of The Barn.

So here we go… Yes, work stopped on Simmons a little while ago for a few reasons; permits do take time, and the possibility of acquiring The Barn and surrounding property started to become a real thing. I did not want to make major changes over at Simmons without taking into consideration the entire space.

My goal is to create a very beautiful , user-friendly, and locally driven space that everyone can enjoy.

FYI, I am not a billionaire. Would be pretty cool if I was, but that’s a whole other story. I am also not an out-of-towner, I live about seven minutes from Simmons.

I am so honored and blessed to be a part of this community and I’m excited for my vision of the properties to unfold. I do understand why some people have been frustrated with the lack of information and I hope this helps explain. While work was on hold for Simmons, I have been remodeling the front house, keeping the charm and character of the house in place, but fixing a lot of the things and bringing everything up to code.

Now that we have a better idea of the whole picture, progress will be quick with Simmons and The Barn.

Without giving too much away, I will tell you that Simmons will continue to be a general store and café serving breakfast and lunch. We will have lots of wonderful bakery and deli items, desserts, etc. The Barn will continue to be a restaurant though there will be some changes that I hope you will all enjoy immensely.

The goal is to make that whole corner more of a destination space focusing on the local community and enjoying the summer folks when they are in town. Hopefully not too far down the road we will be resurrecting a building on the Abraham Manchester site to become a pub/tavern. So as you can see there are a lot of plans in place and a lot of work to do.

If you have questions please feel free to address me personally. I look forward to having everything open and as always, I appreciate your suggestions comments concerns.
