Letter: I’m grateful for Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice

To the editor:

For 45 years I have had the pleasure and honor of being associated with Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice. I have been a consultant, a referring physician, a hospice medical

director, and now a member of the Board of Directors.

As a referring physician, I have total confidence in the clinical staff. They are knowledgeable, compassionate, and thorough in their care of all patients. As a hospice medical director, attending the meetings I was able to observe firsthand

the commitment and dedication to the complex care of our most vulnerable patients and their families. Now, as a member of the Board of Directors, I remain impressed and inspired by the hard work, integrity, and compassionate care the clinical and administrative staff has for our patients.

For 75 years, VNH&H has served generations of Rhode Island families. Let us be thankful that this organization has been here to serve our community. As a nonprofit, VNH&H has no shareholders, only stakeholders. The stakeholders are you, our community.

Please visit the website at www.visitingnursehh.org. Let us all give thanks and support to this invaluable organization that provides skilled home healthcare, rehab, palliative care, and hospice care to so many families.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
