To all Island Park/Hummocks residents:
In April of 2024, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued its 2024 hurricane data. This year is forecasted to be the busiest hurricane season in our history. We have all seen pictures, heard stories about 1938 and 1954 hurricanes. We cannot wait to know what to do, where to go, and how to survive without being prepared!
Our Emergency Management administrator, Ray Perry (401/643-0444) drafted me to be the “spark” to get us motivated so we are prepared. We have had two meetings, May 22 and June 19.
Karen Duval has graciously accepted the position of acting secretary. I pray she continues to be our full-time secretary of the record.
We have scheduled a meeting on Thursday, July 25, at 6 p.m. at the Portsmouth Town Hall, second floor, in the Portsmouth Room. I cannot impress upon the residents of Island Park and the Hummocks to get involved and show up on July 25.
I can be reached at 401/952-1953 for any additional information.
Respectively,
John Vitkevich
