Letter: Let’s end the outrage on Ferry Road

To the editor:

I am writing in response to the irresponsible letter written regarding 135 Ferry Road by Stephen Brigidi. His claims that no one cared enough to save 135 Ferry Road are completely false. The town planner worked extremely hard to come up with a plan to save that house. It appears that Mr. Brigidi never bothered to contact town officials about their efforts to save the house.

There were also multiple private parties that inquired about relocating this historic home and the owners of the property would have allowed it. The bottom line was the costs involved to move the home were just too great. Real estate transactions like this must make sense financially, a concept that Mr. Brigidi does not understand.

Writing that “the owners turned a deaf ear to our community and destroyed a gem” is simply not true. Saying that the owners acted cynically and had an attitude of “it’s mine and I’ll do what I want with it, Bristol be damned” is also simply not true.

The owners had every right to do what they did with “THEIR PROPERTY.” Mr. Brigidi also referred to the owners of 135 Ferry Road as “new arrivals”. According to town records, I see that they have owned this property for eight years. Mr. Brigidi, how long does it take for “new arrivals” to become Bristolians? Remember “New Arrivals” are our neighbors, not pariahs. Let’s drop the outrage and engage in being more neighborly and inclusive.
