Letter: LGBTQ agenda is too prominent in our schools

Posted

I feel Wilbur McMahon School is on the wrong track with certain policies supported by Superintendent Laurie Dias-Michell and the Democrats on the Little Compton School Committee. The superintendent uses the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) as the excuse for her policies, but they are RIDE’s guidelines, not mandates.

At the March 13 meeting, Mike Rocha argued to add to the library policy, that parents have the right to know what their child is reading. Superintendent Mitchell said while this is true, she is passionately against it. She said, if a child is going through an issue, they have highly vetted and high-quality materials they can read and implied they should do so without their parents knowing.

As a parent, I would want to know what these “highly vetted and high quality” materials are and what personal issues my child is going through. Wouldn’t you?

Currently, there are  23 books at Wilbur McMahon School Library regarding transgender. There are also books filtering into other K-8 grade school libraries that have child-like graphics depicting children having sex with other children including anal and oral sex. Some consider these highly vetted and high quality. I hope they don’t wind up on our school shelves.

Regarding the bathroom policy, it was clarified in the subcommittee meeting that if a boy says he identifies as a girl, he is allowed and has access to the girls’ changing rooms and bathrooms, even though he has his own facility. And, if the girls feel uncomfortable with this arrangement, all these girls need to leave. Furthermore, the policy states the counseling staff and school administrators are encouraged to work with individuals to address the discomfort and talk about diversity.

And the flag policy? Why is it that only the LBGQT flag is flown at Wilbur and not the heterosexual flag? Are heterosexual children not allowed to have pride over their gender as well? At the town council meeting, the current Democratic school board members pushed to have the LGBTQ flag flown at town hall. Due to the controversy, when it was determined that only the American flag would be flown and the LGBT flag could be flown only when there is an LGBTQ event, Patrick McHugh commented that when the council changes hands, that flag policy will change.

It seems the LGBTQ has hijacked the Democratic party in the nation and our town. I disagree with the notion that sex and gender can be changed, like a boy may be born into a girl’s body and needs to transition to correct the mistake. God doesn’t make mistakes. In the Bible it says, He “knits us in our mother’s womb.”

If you practice or support LBGTQ, do so, but live and let live. Please stop confusing children about their gender. And stop the name-calling and accusing one of hate if they disagree. There is no hate, just disagreement.

The Republicans running are for parents’ rights and focus on education. For this year and our town, I hope you will vote for them.
