It’s the same old story from Little Compton Republicans, and frankly, it’s a disservice to our town.
Once again, we’re seeing behavior that undermines the voices of Little Compton voters. Just like with the budget committee, where someone is elected only to step aside for a hand-picked replacement, this same backroom maneuvering is now playing out on the school committee.
Mike Rocha, let’s get one thing straight: The people of Little Compton spoke decisively in this election. They rejected your outdated ideas, your budget-slashing agenda, and your so-called “return to basics.” The town made it clear — we want leaders who are forward-thinking, transparent, and committed to supporting our school, not individuals pushing harmful agendas.
Your disrespectful treatment of our school administrators and staff — dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to support our students — is appalling. These individuals are an essential part of our community and deserve respect, not derision.
And then there’s Susan Kinnane. Her anti-LGBTQ agenda was not only harmful but also wildly out of touch with the priorities of this community. Her decision to abandon her seat for the next two years is a clear acknowledgment that her divisive and misguided approach failed.
The voters of Little Compton chose candidates who support equity and progress — not hidden agendas that harm our students.
As parents, guardians, and community members, it’s our responsibility to ensure that the school committee reflects the will of the people, not the personal ambitions of a select few. One person does not and should not have the power to speak for the entire committee, nor should they act as though they do.
Little Compton has chosen a better path, one focused on diversity, equity, inclusivity, and the success of all students. Let’s see that through and stay vigilant LC!
Megan Gonzalez
Little Compton
Editor’s note: Gonzalez, a former school committee member, resigned several months ago as she prepares to move from Little Compton to Tiverton. Her vacant seat was filled by Democrat Mark Gleicher, who was the highest vote getter to not earn a seat on the committee in the 2022 election. Gleicher will serve the remaining two years of her term.
