Letter: Photo was not a good portrayal of bike path safety
To the editor:
The e-bike article (“E-bike uncertainty”) in last week’s East Bay Life section ends with a quote from Mark DeStefano: “The key thing is, when it comes to safety, it doesn’t matter what kind of bike it is … It’s more about the responsible rider.” Great that your photographer’s photo captured a family biking together, but the safety message doesn’t match when the photo shows a 9-year-old bicycling with eyes looking down at her cell phone and no riders with bicycle helmets.
Like all ‘drivers,’ eyes on the road for safety please, and definitely helmets on kids under age 15, per Rhode Island law. I hope you can correct the message you erroneously portrayed.
