Letter: Please support affordable housing in Barrington
To the editor:
This spring the Barrington Town Council voted to add a one-time appropriation of $500,000 to the town budget for affordable housing. The lack of affordable housing in town has been an issue for years that has only become more acute with the current run up in real estate prices. The appropriation amounts to a modest $31 per person in town. The Committee on Appropriations removed the funding for affordable housing. I am writing to urge concerned citizens who care about this issue to attend the Financial Town Meeting on June 16 at Barrington High School at 7 p.m. and support a motion to reinstate this funding.
The stock of modestly priced homes in town is rapidly disappearing. It is important to take action now to address the problem.
