Letter: Thank you for supporting the goal of world peace
To the editor:
We would like to thank the Bristol Town Council for passing the Proclamation of Welcome to the Golden Rule sailboat and a resolution in support of the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at their April 19 meeting. It was an historic moment which we hope will open the way for more dialogue and understanding on the critical issue of nuclear disarmament and world peace.
The Golden Rule sailboat is a national project of the Veterans for Peace, who are now sailing up the East Coast promoting peace and a nuclear free world. The boat, which has a significant history dating back to its first voyage in 1958, will be in Rhode Island June 11 to 13. We are very excited about their plan to visit Bristol on Tuesday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., when the public will be invited to a welcoming ceremony at Rockwell Park, where they will have an opportunity to board the boat and talk with the crew.
