As the 2024–2025 academic year concludes, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this year a success; including our teachers, administrative staff, parents, community members, and, of course, our incredible students. Your dedication, resilience, and commitment to our schools continue to move Westport forward in meaningful and lasting ways.

I also want to extend my deep appreciation to Superintendent Thomas Aubin as he retires from a distinguished career in public education. Throughout his years of service to Westport Community Schools, Superintendent Aubin has led with steadiness, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to doing what is best for students. He has helped guide our district through both challenges and progress with integrity and care. His impact will be felt for years to come, and I thank him sincerely for all he has given to our community. As we look ahead, I am thrilled to officially welcome Dr. Fran Roy as the next Superintendent of Westport Community Schools. Dr. Roy brings with her decades of experience in public education, from the classroom to district and state leadership, along with a deep focus on improving real outcomes for children. Her collaborative approach and student-centered vision are exactly what our district needs as we build on the strong foundation already in place. To all those who supported our schools this year, and to those stepping into new chapters, thank you. I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the year ahead, and to a future for Westport education that is bright, ambitious, and rooted in excellence.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
