Letter: Thanks for supporting Portsmouth rally on April 5

To the editor:

On behalf of all the people who rallied in Portsmouth on April to support our democracy I would like to thank the towns of Portsmouth, Middletown and Newport for the unprecedented support provided to the rally. The good folks of all three towns showed up with an amazing exuberance and a multitude of wonderful signs proving that support for our democratic form of government is alive and well.

Despite the gray skies and cold winds, there was an exuberance in the crowd and in the many cars tooting their horns in approval for our efforts that kept us going. The police were a quiet presence which we appreciated. The surrounding businesses were patient with our parked cars. All’s well that ends well.

Thank you Portsmouth! You are a cradle of liberty with a magnificent history in the building of our democracy. We are proud islanders!
