To the editor:

Over the past few weeks, all buildings in the district have experienced intermittent Wi-Fi, internet connectivity and phone issues. While the Westport Schools has since successfully resolved phone issues, the district is still working to resolve internet and Wi-Fi issues at this time.

As we are aware, many school districts in Massachusetts have been experiencing technology issues, and Westport Schools continues to experience connectivity issues as well. "I would like to thank our Technology Department for their commitment to resolving these issues.

As of Monday, May 3, Westport Schools had significantly reduced remaining issues, but will continue making adjustments in preparation for Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) testing.

The Technology Department has worked relentlessly alongside the district's internet service provider, as well as outside engineers, to review and make changes to the internet data flow and Wi-Fi access point locations.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
