Letter: Where is Gonzalez's evidence in Rocha, Soderlund letter?

Posted

In response to the “Letter to the Editor” published on December 4, 2024, by former Vice President of the Little Compton Democratic Town Committee Megan Gonzalez, we feel compelled to address the erroneous accusations made in her letter.

Mrs. Gonzalez asserts that the resignations of a former member of the Little Compton School Committee and a former member of the Little Compton Budget Committee were orchestrated to facilitate the re-instatement of both Mike W. Rocha II to the School Committee and Corey Soderlund to the Budget Committee. These allegations are based purely on hearsay and lack any factual or credible evidence. The reasons for the resignations were clearly outlined in the respective resignation letters of the individuals involved. To suggest that these long-serving and respected members of our community acted with ulterior motives is not only unfounded but also irresponsible.

Furthermore, the Little Compton Town Code provides a clear and transparent process for filling vacancies on both the School Committee and Budget Committee. As specified in Sections 204 and 803 of the Town Code:

•       Vacancies are to be filled by the unelected candidate who received the highest number of votes in the most recent election for that office. If that person is unavailable or unwilling to serve, the Town Council is tasked with filling the vacancy.

Current and past  members of the School Committee and Town Council were selected through this same process.

If Mrs. Gonzalez has any verifiable evidence to support her claims, we invite her to share it publicly. Spreading unfounded rhetoric does nothing to help the hardworking residents of Little Compton and only serves to distract from the important work at hand.
