Letter: You are invited to first-ever ‘Soul Force’

To the editor:

The Barrington Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee in collaboration with the Friends of Bay Spring Community Center invite you to Soul Force: A Celebration of Civil Rights. Join us for an inspiring day honoring Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy of justice, equality and unity.  

When: Next Saturday, Jan. 18, from noon to 5 p.m.

Where: Bay Spring Community Center, 170 Narragansett Ave., Barrington

Who: You! Bring friends and family — there’ll be something for everyone from 6 months to 95 years. 

What:  

• Two Food Trucks from noon to 3 p.m.: Cultro Mexican/Dominican and Venezuelan tacos and Incredibowl, offering salads, rice bowls, and fresh juices.

• For Kids: Create and paint mini-protest signs and kindness rocks from noon to 3 p.m.

• For All Ages: Music and storytelling, art and poetry

Kim Trusty Band, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues Vocal Improvisation, Soul and Roots Music from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Student art contest, poetry reading, conversation with elders through time from 2 to 3 p.m.

Rhode Island Black Storytellers FundaFest, featuring Valerie Tutson and Rochel Garner Coleman from 3 to 4 p.m.

Prism of Praise Community Gospel Choir, a multiracial, ethnically diverse, independent Christian community choir with over 30 active members from 4 to 5 p.m.

• What to Bring: Your inclusive community spirit

• What Not to Bring: Your money. It’s all free. Yes, including the food.
