Letter: Your support at Veterans’ Day ceremony was appreciated

On behalf of the Tiverton Historical Society, I would like to thank all those who came to our annual Veterans Day Tribute at the World War I Doughboy monument by the old Stone Bridge - all fifty of you! And a special and sincere thanks to the fifteen veterans for coming - and for your service and sacrifice in Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq/Afghanistan.

Thanks also to Tiverton Officer Leduc, who also served as a Marine,  (currently in the Marine National Guard), who shared an incredible memoir of his grandfather's time as a Marine in Guam and Iwo Jima. I can't imagine how frightening it must have been for him to be hunkered down in ditches as the Japanese walked by the Marines, "so close they could have reached out and grabbed their ankles" - but of course, they didn't dare risk their lives or their comrades' in arms.

This was the last event we had scheduled for the year, and are looking forward to next year's events which we will be planning shortly. If anybody has any ideas for programs or events, please let us know! And, as always, we welcome donations of local historical items - and especially donations of the monetary sort, to help us maintain our historic ca. 1730 house, outbuildings, and grounds at Tiverton Four Corners. Visit tivertonhistorical.org for contact information on how to donate.

Thank you for your support, and hope to see you in 2025!

P.s. We are also grateful to singer/songwriter/artist Gary Farias of Tiverton who took photographs of this event and past ones for THS.
