Mary Della Blanchette, Tiverton

Exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother

Posted

Della was born in North Brookfield, Mass., the daughter of George and Carrie Jones. Upon the very young passing of Carrie, she was lovingly cared for by her Aunt Bertha and Uncle Archie, whom she lived with until her marriage to Henry Blanchette and became a Navy wife living on the Newport Naval Base.

Upon his retirement, they settled in Tiverton, R.I. She enjoyed life and family, also gardening, reading and swimming at the "Y".  Her most prized accomplishments were those of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She leaves two children, Susan and Cindy, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Michael and Peter, seven brothers and two sisters. Private arrangements were with the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Rd, Tiverton, RI.  www.almeida-pocasset.com for on line guest book.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests you share a kind word or special visit with your own loved ones in her memory.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
