The Mt. Hope High School boys' volleyball and lacrosse teams are off to superb starts to the respective 2025 seasons, both with just one loss two weeks into their spring slates.

Boys' volleyball
The Mt. Hope boys' spikers responded from a tough, five-set loss to Division II Westerly in their previous outing with a 3-0 sweep of Mt. Pleasant.

The Huskies improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the league after beating the Kilties by the scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 26-16. Nate Fisher led the way with 10 kills while adding five service aces and five digs. Dylan Shaw had 10 digs and four aces. Jacob Betres had eight kills and five digs.

Boys' lacrosse
The Huskies, who likewise fell to D-II Westerly in their previous contest, won a pair of contests earlier in the week, including 16-6 decision over North Smithfield. The locals never trailed after building a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. They eventually led 13-2 at the half.

Charlie Knapman paced the Mt. Hope offense with six goals and two assists. Aedan Nelson had a hat-trick and matched that total with three assists.

Noah Sweeney had two goals and two helpers. Jack Godbout had two goals and Will Stimson two assists. Ben Browne had a goal and three assists. Brayden Vales finished with one and one. Emerson Torrey scored a goal. Aidan Pereira won 22 of 26 faceoffs. Goalie Ethan Labollita made eight saves.

In a 7-2 win over Providence Country Day, the Huskies used three goals in the third quarter to pull away from the host Knights.

Nelson had a hat-trick, Browne two goals, Stimson and Knapman one each. Vales and Knapman had two assists. Brown and Torrey have one apiece. Pereira was 10-for-12 in the circle while Labollita was credited with nine saves.

Mt. Hope improved to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in Division III with the victories.

Softball
The expected struggles for a retooling Mt. Hope softball team continued earlier in the week as the Huskies fell to 0-3 in Division II with a 19-4 loss to Lincoln High.

Anna VanAmberg (single), Macie Comeau (double) and Emily Moran (single) each had a hit and scored a run in the first inning for the locals. singled to right field, each scoring one run. Comeau finished her day with two hits and also drove in a pair. Hailey Ferreira also had a two-hit day for the Huskies.

Girls' lacrosse
The Mt. Hope girls' lacrosse team's early season slate has been hindered by weather. The Huskies have only played two games, losing both including an 11-5 decision against Middletown.

Lola Silva netted three of the goals for the Huskies. Miley Boucher had a goal and an assist. Sophia Santoro scored the other Mt. Hope tally. Keeper Nadia Albritton was credited with seven saves.

Boucher and Lilliana Redman each had a goal and a helper in the Huskies' 15-2 loss to Cumberland. Adriana Botelho added an assist.

Baseball
It's been a competitive, but fruitless, start to the 2025 season for the Mt. Hope baseball nine.

The Huskies have dropped their opening Division I outings, 5-3 to Lincoln High and 7-3 to rival Barrington.

Mt. Hope gave up a 3-1 lead in the seventh to the visiting Lions in the one-run loss.

Against the neighboring Eagles, Barrington matched Mt. Hope's two runs in the first inning then added two more in the third to take the lead for keeps.

Trace Dubois had a two-hit, two-RBI day for the locals. Ethan Santerre also had a pair of hits. Logan Dubois scored a run and Brody Cavalieri plated the other tally for the Huskies.

KMS softball
The Kickemuit Middle School softball team began its 2025 season April 10 with a resounding 19-3 victory over Martin of East Providence.

Rachel Castigliago and Aubrey Birchell had doubles for the locals. Birchall also had a base hit and stole four bases as did Castigliago.

Jaelyn Couto, Danika Frazier and Hailey Micallef had two base hits each. Aubrey DaPonte, Giuliana Grifka, Leah Cheatom and Celleste Konz had one apiece.

Couto swiped a team-best six bags, Frazier three, Micallef two and Grifka two. DaPonte, Cheatom and Konz had one.

Birchell picked up the win in the circle, throwing three innings and striking out three.

The rest of the KMS roster includes Lacey Bento, Brooke Farias, Cora Blomstedt, Madeline Duval, Kirra Lambert, Aster Bahan and Anjalie Rivas Enriquez. Tina Fernandes is the head coach assisted by Grace Stephenson.
