Muskets and 'Muster' at Coggeshall Farm on Saturday

Coggeshall Farm Museum opens its summer season with several events in June. The first is this Saturday, June 7, when it hosts Bristol Muster Day, a 250th anniversary-themed event that focuses on the war preparations in Rhode Island following the battle at Lexington and Concord.

Guests can see musket demonstrations, a militia drill, and talk with reenactors. Events are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are included with standard daytime admission. Tickets and additional information for Bristol Muster Day are available at https://coggeshallfarm.org/event/bristol-muster-day/.

Muster Day schedule:

  • 11 a.m.: Musket demonstration with Tew’s Company
  • 12:30 p.m.: “Warm Advocates for the Cause of American Liberty” to summarize Bristol’s involvement in the Revolution” with C.J. Wolanski
  • 1:30 p.m.: Musket demonstration with Tew’s Company
  • #:30 p.m.: Musket demonstration with Tew’s Company

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
