Barrington baseball teams were unable to use the new ball field at the middle school this spring, but work is underway to bring the field into playing condition as soon as possible.
A landscaping company hired by the contractor began installing sod turf on the baseball diamond portion of the middle school’s new athletic fields on Friday, June 4, and continued the work on Saturday.
The initial plan called for the baseball field and surrounding multi-use fields at the middle school to be open to teams this spring, but late last fall town officials argued that the playing surface was unacceptable. A member of the school building committee familiar with the project said the contractor and subcontractor followed the correct protocol when grading the field and seeding it. He said the seed just did not fare as well as officials had hoped.
The new plan was to have the middle school athletic fields open to teams this fall, although officials are waiting to see how well the sod takes.
