Police: Barrington couple targeted by ding-dong-ditch pranksters

Kids also leave leave traffic cone at Governor Bradford Drive residence

Police believe a group of Barrington juveniles is targeting an older couple that lives on Governor Bradford Drive with some late-night pranks.

The first incident occurred on Friday night, March 21 at about 10 p.m. Barrington Police said the Governor Bradford Drive resident called to report that he heard a loud bang at the front door. The resident checked the door, but no one was there.

The ding-dong-ditchers went one step further on Saturday night, police said. According to the report, the same Governor Bradford Drive residents called the station to report that someone had banged on their door at about 9:40 p.m. When the resident opened the door, no one was there but the kids had left a large orange traffic cone.

Police are investigating — officers are checking doorbell camera footage from neighboring residents in an effort to identify the pranksters.

Barrington Police faced a similar situation last year: In late August, a Watson Avenue resident told police her doorbell camera captured footage of local boys playing ding-dong-ditch. Police later located three 12-year-old boys from Barrington, called their parents and issued warnings. Ding-dong-ditch incidents were also reported on Beaver Road and on Highland Avenue.
