PORTSMOUTH — A Fall River woman was found with a 2-year-old child in her car when she was pulled over on Friday, Jan. 24, and subsequently charged with driving under the influence (DUI).

On Friday shortly before 7:30 p.m., an officer observed a white Volkswagen Tiguan traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on East Main Road near Walgreens.

The vehicle was stopped, and the driver, identified as Dara Dupre, 24, of Fall River, exhibited multiple signs of alcohol impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, according to police.

A 2-year-old child was found in a safety seat in the rear of the vehicle, police said.

Dupre underwent the standardized field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI. After being transported to Portsmouth Police headquarters, she submitted to a chemical breath test, which she failed, police said.

Dupre was issued a Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal citation for speeding and charged with the following offenses:

• DUI, first offense

• DUI of liquor/drugs — child under 13 as passenger, first offense

She is scheduled for formal arraignment at 2nd Division District Court in Newport on Thursday, Jan. 30.
