PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth High’s Division I quarterfinal contest with Prout School came down to the wire Thursday, May 29, as the Patriots nipped the visiting team by a score of 17-16.

PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth High’s Division I quarterfinal contest with Prout School came down to the wire Thursday, May 29, as the Patriots nipped the visiting team by a score of 17-16.

The 10-7 Patriots came into the matchup as the No. 4 seed, with the Crusaders (8-8) seeded at No. 5.

The Patriots advanced to play top-seeded Moses Brown on the road at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. Moses Brown enjoyed a bye in the quarterfinal round.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
