PORTSMOUTH — They didn’t win their game against Prout at home last Friday, but members of the Portsmouth High girls’ lacrosse team accomplished something more important: Raising awareness and funds toward breast cancer research.
During the game, members of the public supported the team’s fund-raising efforts for Dana Farber. The Patriots ran a 50/50 raffle, along with a variety of raffled gift baskets and a bake sale.
All proceeds will be donated to Dana Farber in memory of Patricia “Pat” Carrellas, who passed away in December after a courageous journey with breast cancer. Carrellas was said to be the team’s biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader.
Her daughter, Margaux Boneu, a senior captain on the team, was also presented with a $2,000 scholarship check, as friends, teammates and members of family looked on.
The Patriots were edged by Prout, 9-8, in the Division I game. The record dropped Portsmouth to 4-5 in the Division.
Here are the team’s upcoming games:
• at home against Bishop Guertin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30
• at Barrington at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2
• at North Kingstown at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6
• at East Greenwich at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8
