PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Canvassing Authority has issued a correction to an explanation of a ballot question that was mailed out to voters in September.
Voters will be asked two referendum questions during a special election on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Question No. 2 concerns the development of a senior housing complex on Bristol Ferry Road.
In the explanation sheet mailed out in September, Question 2 was listed as follows in error:
2. APPROVAL OF PROPERTY TRANSFER PURSUANT TO SECTION 912 OF THE PORTSMOUTH TOWN CHARTER
(Resolution of the Town Council adopted August 10, 2021)
Shall a transfer of a property interest in the so-called Anne Hutchinson School property at 110 Bristol Ferry Road, for the purposes of developing elderly affordable housing and a new home for the Portsmouth Senior Center, be approved?
The correct version, as it will appear on the ballot, is as follows:
2. APPROVAL OF PROPERTY TRANSFER PURSUANT TO SECTION 912 OF THE PORTSMOUTH TOWN CHARTER
(Resolution of the Town Council adopted August 10, 2021)
Shall a transfer of a property interest in the so-called Anne Hutchinson School property at 110 Bristol Ferry Road, for the purposes of developing elderly affordable housing, a new Senior Center facility, and the possible redevelopment of the original Anne Hutchinson School building, be approved?
Mail ballot alert
In September, all active Portsmouth voters received an information packet with a mail ballot application for the Nov. 2 Portsmouth special referendum. No ballot was enclosed. The examples of the questions showed explanations and background resources.
If you marked and returned the explanation sheet without the signed application, you will not be mailed a ballot from the R.I. Department of State and you did not vote in the election.
