PORTSMOUTH — Police are investigating an alleged homicide that took place Monday at 1722 West Main Road.

A suspect, Jacob Morrill, 24, of Portsmouth, is in custody and is expected to be arraigned at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at 2nd Division District Court in Newport, according to Deputy Police Chief Michael Morse.

The victim was also male, but his name was not released as of Tuesday morning. Morse said police plan to send out a press release with more details later in the day, and a press conference will be held at police headquarters at 1 p.m.

Televised media reports showed the West Main Road property and its modest two-bedroom home surrounded by police tape Monday night, and the animal control officer was also on the scene. The home is located on the east side of West Main Road, between the Greenleaf Compassion Center and Raytheon Co.

In addition to the alleged homicide, there was also a fatal motor vehicle crash that took place on Indian Avenue at the same time police were investigating the incident on West Main Road, Morse said.

More details will be forthcoming on that tragedy as well, he said.
