The Riverside Post 10 Junior Division squad, sponsored by the ATC (Athletes Turn Champion) Training Facility, returned to Rhode Island American Legion Baseball League action after the July Fourth holiday break with a game Tuesday night, July 9, at home versus South Kingstown Post 39 when the locals earned an 8-4 win.

Post 10 entered the contest against their foes from South County with six wins in their first seven league outings, including a run of four in a row since suffering their lone loss, 3-2, to West Warwick Post 2 back on June 19.

Riverside began its summer with a shutout sweep of Gershkoff Cranston Post 20 in back-to-back outings, 5-0 and 2-0. Post 10 next fell to Post 2 by the single run, but beat Post 39 in SK by a 7-3 count.

The locals followed up with three consecutive wins over Scituate Post 19. Riverside swept a double-header in city at Pierce Field on June 26 by the scores of 4-0 and 5-4. Post 10 then began the new month with a 13-0 thrashing of Post 19 in the Scituate on July 1.

Riverside had its game against R&R Construction Post 7 postponed due to rain on Tuesday, July 2.

Against Post 39 in the rematch last week, Post 10 spotted its guests a run in the top of the first inning, before scoring four times in the top of bottom of the frame to gain an early grip on the contest. Aidan Martins reached on a error to lead off the inning. JJ Renaud doubled. Will Francis followed with a double as well to plate a pair. Chris Charbonneau drove in Francis with Riverside's third consecutive two-base hit. Charbonneau scored after James Palmieri's grounder was misplayed for the second SK error of the frame.

Post 10 tacked on another tally in the fourth and two more in the fifth to boost its lead to 7-1. Renaud, Riverside's starting pitcher, walked and scored in the fourth on a Francis single. In the fifth, Palmieri doubled to start the inning. Max Pawlik. Both eventually came around when Martins singled to center.

Renaud exited the mound after tossing five frames and allowing one run on 94 pitches. He was able to escape a bases-loaded jam in the top the fifth.

Post 39 scratched out a pair of runs in the top of the sixth off Post 10 reliever Jamison Sydney, the visitors cutting their deficit to 7-3. In the bottom of the frame, the two local hurlers helped their side add a run back to their lead as Renaud (3-for-3 on the evening) doubled again then scored when Sydney singled to left.

SK managed one more run in the top of the seventh before Sydney enticed the final out of the game on a fly ball to Pawlick in left field.

Riverside returns to action Wednesday night, July 12, in West Warwick against Post 2 at McCarthy Field where the locals will play a doubleheader with games at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
