A little bit of the PPAC could soon be coming to Barrington.

Members of the Barrington School Committee are expected to vote on a special gift from the Providence Performing Arts Center at a meeting this Thursday night, Nov. 21. According to meeting documents, officials at PPAC are hoping to donate some the theater’s used lighting equipment to Barrington High School to be used in the auditorium.

“Barrington High School was contacted by the head carpenter, Bill Brackett, from the Providence Performing Arts Center earlier this school year with a great opportunity,” wrote Barrington High School Principal Chris Ashley in a letter to district officials. “PPAC has upgraded their lighting and was looking to donate some of their used lights to local schools in the area. Bill reached out specifically to Nahum Mitnik because his audio engineering program is a CTE program in which PPAC is a community partner.”

According to the letter from Ashley, PPAC officials divided the used equipment among the four schools that they partner with for the CTE programs.

“BHS was lucky enough to be given roughly 57 much needed lights for the high school auditorium, including cables and a spare mixing board that would help support Barrington Middle School’s auditorium,” Ashley wrote.

Officials estimate the equipment is worth more than $15,000.

“Many of our current stage lights are not functional and in desperate need of replacement,” Ashley wrote. “This donation will get us closer to having the ideal stage lighting we are looking to eventually upgrade towards.”

Committee members are expected to vote on whether to accept the donation of the fixed lighting from PPAC.
