Quadros named new head of school at Henry Barnard

Takes over as merger with Providence Country Day begins

PROVIDENCE — Henry Barnard School has announced Kyle Quadros as Head of Lower School, effective for the 2021-2022 school year.

Mr. Quadros will take the helm at a pivotal moment for the 122-year-old school as it begins a new partnership with Providence Country Day School in East Providence, leading the daily operations for the PreK through grade 5 program while reporting to PCD’s Head of School Kevin Folan.

Through the recently announced partnership Henry Barnard School will now be the lower school for Providence Country Day, creating an exciting new PreK through 12 school collaboration.

“After a search that included conversations with many well-qualified candidates, Kyle stood out as the right fit for this crucial juncture for Henry Barnard School,” Mr. Folan said. “It was clear that his philosophical approach to education, combined with his ample and diverse experience, certainly fit well with the values and culture he will find at HBS. Kyle's energy, enthusiasm, and passion are infectious and his commitment to building learning communities is inspiring.”

Mr. Quadros brings 10 years of experience in educational administration to his new role. He has a long history of educational leadership focused on equity and trauma-informed practices, and is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese.

Said Henry Barnard Parent Association president Scott Bromberg, who spearheaded the search for the new school leader, "Kyle is an inspiring leader and education visionary. We look forward to the leadership Kyle will bring to Henry Barnard School, its teachers, staff, students and families. He is the leader that we need at this pivotal moment, and will be a key player in this partnership with Providence Country Day School. The future is bright for our elementary school community."

Mr. Quadros previously served as Head of School at Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy in Cumberland, RI for six years. During this time, he was one of five US principals selected by Teach for All to travel to different countries to study best pedagogical practices. Most recently, he led the K-12 COVID program for the Rhode Island Department of Health through his role at Tilo, the educational nonprofit he founded in 2018.

“It is always my mission to develop and sustain a positive nurturing culture for students, families, and staff in order to maximize student growth and development,” said Mr. Quadros. “Paramount to the culture I cultivate is respect and academic rigor. I hope to bring that same sense of commitment, collaboration, passion, and sense of community to Henry Barnard School.”

A native Rhode Islander and Tolman High School alumnus, Quadros is a graduate of Providence College with a Master of Special Education from Arizona State University. He lives in Pawtucket, RI with his three children Juliana, Kollins, and Jude, and his wife Tara, who has taught elementary school herself for the past 11 years.

The elementary school had faced an uncertain future after Rhode Island College announced last August that it would be shuttering the historic school over budgetary concerns. A group of passionate parents led the heroic effort to save the school, creating an independent entity from RIC and then partnering with PCD to ensure stability for the future. HBS will continue to lease its existing facilities on RIC’s campus while plans are made to build new facilities to accommodate the elementary school on PCD’s 30-plus acre campus in East Providence within 3-5 years.

With a student-centered approach and an individualized curriculum, HBS is uniquely positioned to meet each child where they are in their learning journey. HBS is currently accepting applications for PreK-5 for the 2021-2022 school year, with the added benefit of a cohesive educational experience for families seeking to continue on to middle and high school at PCD.
