Robert L. Jenkins, 94, of Westport and Naples, Fla., passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at N. Naples Community Hospital. He was the husband of Annie (Hawes) Hogg Jenkins and the late Nancy J. (Van Blarcom) Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkins was born in Fall River, son of the late Burton P. and Adelaide (Chabot) Jenkins, and had been a longtime resident of Assonet and Westport before moving to Naples. Prior to retirement, he was the former owner of Leonard’s Antiques. He was a charter member of the Colonial Navy of MA and a member of both the Freetown Lions Club and the Acoaxet Club. Mr. Jenkins was a lifelong member of the United Church of Assonet.

Survivors along with his wife include his son, Douglas R. Jenkins of Natick, Mass.; his daughter, Robin Jenkins Furze of Tiverton, R.I.; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; along with several nieces.

He was the father of the late Jeffery Burton Jenkins.

He was the brother of the late Burton P. Jenkins, Jr.

A memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Assonet.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Assonet, 9 N. Main St., Assonet, MA 02702.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
