Robert Sterling Bush, 98, of Bristol

Robert Sterling Bush, 98, of Bristol, R.I., passed away on May 4, 2021.

He was the son of the late Roy V. Bush and Alice Rose (Galla) Bush. He was the brother of the late Lester A. Bush, Louise Butler and Jeannette Tetreault.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Marabello (Ronnie) of Warren, R.I.; his granddaughter, Laura Millar (Tim) of Lake Worth, Fla.; his grandson Ronnie Marabello (Melissa) of Catawba, N.C.; and his two great-granddaughters, Liliana Rose Marabello and Stella Grace Millar. He is also survived by his niece, Shirley Beers, of Hanover, Mass.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Frances (Brown) Bush, and his daughter, Barbara Susan Bush.

Mr. Bush was born in Bristol and attended Bristol Public Schools. He was an Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Bristol.

Mr. Bush worked for the Collins and Aikman Company in Bristol, Improved Seamless Wire Company in Providence and Cook Horton Company in North Attleboro, from which retired as the foreman of the Gold Plating and Melting Department.

He was an avid fisherman and loved being on the water. He served as the President and Treasurer of the Rhode Island Post Card Club. He was also a member of the Rathkamp Matchcover Society, the New England and Connecticut Matchcover Clubs and the Machine Cancel Society.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI. A visitation for family and friends will take place on Monday, May 17, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral service and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen, 55 Turner Ave., East Providence, RI, 02915 or to the Bristol Rescue Squad, 4 Annawamscutt Drive, Bristol, RI 02809.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
