Rosa Herminia Couto, 94, of Bristol

Rosa Herminia (Pacheco) Couto, 94, passed away on May 18, 2021, at Evergreen House Health Center. She was the wife of the late Jose Inacio Couto.   

Born in Rabo de Peixe, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa (Brum) Pacheco. She was the mother of Maria dos Anjos Pacheco of Bristol, Maria Fatima Ventura of Pawtucket, Connie Neves of Riverside, Rosa Couto of Riverside, Joseph Couto of Seymour, Conn., Charles Couto of Riverside and the late Norberto Couto. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Donna Gagnon, Tony Pacheco, Robert Pacheco, Michael Pacheco, Sherry Buckless, Ashley Ventura, Joshua Neves, Tyler Micheletti, Brianna Micheletti, Andrew Couto, Jordan Couto and Sydney Couto, and great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brandon, Tony, Tyler, Carly, Libby, Saddie, Lila, Brock and Gabriel and David. She was the sister of the late Etelvina Oliveira, Daniel Pacheco, Manuel Pacheco, Herminia Faria, Maria de Jesus Grilo, Engracia Miranda and Maria Olinda Camara.

Mrs. Couto was educated in Portugal and employed by R & J Jewelry before retiring.

Her funeral services were held Tuesday, May 25, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Donna Gagnon and Tyler Micheletti. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Brianna Micheletti. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Pacheco, Robert Pacheco, Joshua Neves, Tyler Micheletti, Brandon Gagnon and Daryl Brickless.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
