What does the future hold for the Bay Spring Community Center? There will be a special public workshop on Wednesday night, Dec. 18 to help decide.

The workshop — it will be held on the second floor of the community center at 7 p.m. — will include a discussion about the proposed new spaces inside the BSCC. The Bay Spring Community Learning Center project is focused on creating ADA-compliant interior spaces that will support new programming opportunities. Funded by an $832,030 Capital Projects Fund grant from the state, the project is intended to help the BSCC promote or facilitate educational achievement, job development, and wellness for all interested community members.

At the workshop, the project architect, Brewster Thornton Group, will present the plans and facilitate a discussion on the proposed new spaces. Input from the public during this stage will help town officials and Brewster Thornton finalize the plans to fit within the budget before the project is advertised for bids. Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2025.

The Bay Spring Community Center is located at 170 Narragansett Ave.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
