RICHMOND — The East Providence High School baseball team needed to defeat Chariho on the road Thursday afternoon, June 8, in the Division II championship playoffs to keep its season alive. And the Townies did just that, beating the host Chargers 4-2 in the final round of Pod 1 play.

East Providence will welcome Chariho, which defeated the Townies earlier in the double-elimination tournament by a 5-3 score in 11 innings, to the city Saturday, June 10, at noon in a winner-take-all game for a berth in the best-of-three league title series next week at Rhode Island College.

Barrington and East Greenwich are in the same position on the other half of the bracket. EG hosts the neighboring Eagles in their one-off contest Friday, June 9.

Thursday, Dylan Annicelli went the seven-inning distance on the hill for EPHS, throwing 93 pitches. He scattered nine hits, struck out seven and didn't walk or hit a batter.

The Chargers plated single runs off the sophomore righty in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings after the Townies had taken a 4-0 lead.

East Providence scored all four of its tallies in the top of the third.

Oliver Andrews came up clutch for the locals, driving in three of the runs with a double. Manny Santos, Steven Estrella and Tim Robitaille came around on the hit. Robitaille started the rally with a single earlier in the inning to bring in Brian Rutkowski.
