Event raises money for BHS Parents Association

Barrington High School students raised money for the BHS Parents Association during a special musical BINGO event last month.

The Barrington High School Parents Association fills a number of roles. For starters, it organizes Teacher Appreciation Week for the high school. The group also off-sets the cost of graduation signs for seniors and their families, provides flowers for the graduation ceremony, and pays for assemblies and guest speakers at the school. The BHSPA also purchases books for the library and plays a key role in school beautification.

In order to provide all the services, the organization holds fund-raisers, including the recent musical BINGO.

The Barrington High School Parents Association is not associated with Barrington Boosters, Parents of Note or After Prom.

Anyone interested in joining the Barrington High School Parents Association can visit www.barringtonhighpa.weebly.com or stop by the next meeting — the group meets the first Tuesday of each month, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Barrington High School library.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
