A brand-new, pandemic-born business in Warren

Anat Sagi has always enjoyed great food, well-presented. But as the front of house manager at Providence restaurant Gracie's, for years, she was all about the presentation. "I've been in hospitality all my life," she said. "And I loved working at Gracie's." But her work at Gracie's didn't leave much time to allow her to indulge her love of cooking.

Then came COVID.

"I moved to a farm in Rehoboth, with housemates, and started cooking for fun. I was enjoying it, and posting the things I made to Instagram," she said. Before she knew it people were asking her to cook for them — and The Mosaic Table was born.

For Anat, food traceability and supporting other small, local businesses are top priorities. Accordingly, everything she uses is locally sourced. "I think it's important to build our economy around promoting small businesses, and taking care of each other," she said.

Included among the many local providers with whom she works are Andrade's Catch, Prica Farina, Blackbird Farms, Johnsons and Tom's markets, Urban Greens, Songbird Floral Design, Waxing Moon Witch, Newport Sea Salt, and Campus Fine Wines.

Born in Israel, Anat moved to the U.S. with her family when she was 7; and her family brought their culinary traditions with them — primarily a love of cooking at eating together. She believes that fine dining is a complete experience, and it's about more than the food — which is why she is not just the Owner of The Mosaic Table, but also goes by the title of "Experience Curator".

In addition to a weekly a la carte menu of dishes that can be picked up from various locations around Rhode Island, The Mosaic Table offers catering for gatherings & small events — think a supper club of 12-25 people. Another service she offers — one which can be enjoyed even these days, by the smallest of gatherings — is her "Restaurant Experience at Home". This experience includes all the details, from a three-course meal to wine pairings, flower arrangements and tableware — even a play list. It's an opportunity to support a network of small businesses with a very special night in. Of course, she is able to make accommodations for an and all dietary preferences and restrictions.

"Everything is prepared, provided and delivered, and shows up on your doorstep. All you have to do is perhaps reheat some items," Anat said. "It's a fine, beautiful meal."

Once she can host larger events, Anat's first love is the supper club. "I imagine themed experiences for groups up to 25; intimate events that you look forward to, the experience you're having that day," she said.

As The Mosaic Table expanded, Anat moved her operations to the commercial kitchens at the Hope & Main food business incubator in Warren this past August. In addition to the Meet Your Maker events in Warren, Anat is looking forward to establishing a presence at the Hope Artiste Village market in Pawticket, as well as at Providence Flea; though more and more, she is looking to make her home in the East Bay. From Israel via Brookline and Providence, she is hoping to find an apartment in the area by the end of 2020. "I just love it here," she said.

The Mosaic Table website just went live last Friday, complete with menus and many testimonials from Anat's growing fan base. For more information, visit www.themosaictable.com.
