The Tiverton softball team crushed Exeter-West Greenwich 18-8 during a Division III first-round playoff game at home on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers travel to play Mount St. Charles in the winner’s bracket final on Tuesday afternoon.

Abbie Monkevicz, Sadie Pickering, Abby DeMello, Mackenzie Oliveira and Sam Bettencourt and were the offensive stars of the game according to head coach Mike Brigham. Monkevicz belted 4 hits with a triple, drove in a run and scored 5 runs.

“Abby crushed the ball,” said Coach Brigham.

Pickering smashed 3 hits with a double, drove in 3 runs and scored 2 runs.

“Sadie had the hit of the game,” he said. “With runners on first and second base, she hit a bomb off the right-center field fence and scored them both.”

DeMello, the Tigers’ pitcher, bashed 3 hits and drove in 3 runs.

“Abby battled the heat as well as Exeter-West Greenwich,” he said. “Some errors behind her created tough situations but she was able reduce the damage.”

Oliveira went 3 for 4, drove in a run and scored 2 runs and Bettencourt went 2 for 4, drove in a run and scored 3 runs.

“Mackenzie hit well and had a few defensive gems,” he said.
