Tiverton Police: Pools stolen, fishermen vs. boaters strife

Saturday, May 22

At 1:34 am, a caller reported that a relative left the hospital and is now walking home to Little Compton. The person was found in the area of Old Main Road and given a ride.

Christine M. Davis, 31, of Taunton, Mass., was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge at 3:04 am at the Tiverton Casino.

Kelley A. Neal, 31, of Taunton, Mass., was arrested on an affidavit and arrest warrant at 3:28 am at the Tiverton Casino.

Michael J. Almeida, 40, of 473 South Lake Road, Tiverton, was arrested on a charge of narcotics possession at a Lake Road location.

At 2:57 pm, a caller at Dollar General on Main Road reported that two women with a baby stole four pools from outside the building and left in an unknown direction.

A red bloodhound named Boomer (“afraid of people”) was reported missing on Blueberry Lane. An hour later he was found.

At 5:26 pm an officer went to Merritt Avenue for an on-going neighbor dispute … children hitting balls against a neighbor’s house.

Children screaming outside in the distance were reported at 9:44 pm on Merritt Avenue.

Sunday, May 23

At 9:49 am, a Cypress Avenue caller reported that a vehicle was broken into and a wallet stolen.

Police were notified at 11:07 am that an older man on a scooter approached a group of young girls at the Town Farm. When confronted he took off.

Complaints about cars parked near the water blocking the roadway or on private property were received from near Fogland Beach at 1:43 pm and from Bay Street at 5:43 pm.

Police went to Riverside Drive at 6:06 pm after reports of a dispute between fishermen and people trying to bring a boat in to the ramp. The disagreement involved the boat possibly striking fishing lines.

Police and firefighters went to Dadson Mobile Home Park at 6:42 pm in response to a 911 call about a structure fire. Report: “Dryer on fire, party dumping water on it. Advised to stop and leave the trailer.” The blaze was extinguished.

At 6:57 pm, police were told that people are fishing near swimming children at Grinnell’s Beach. Police found no issues.

Monday, May 24

Shannon Marie Dupras, 23, of Fall River, was arrested in a charge of narcotics possession at 1:08 am on Main Road.

Monday, May 24

At 12:53 am, a caller complained about loud motorcycles on Route 24 in the area of Eagleville Road.

A car struck and killed a deer on Main Road after 8 am.

A Hancock Street, resident said that a neighbor is dumping trash on his property.

At 2:33 pm, a caller told police that a UPS driver had been bitten by a dog in the area of 912 Bulgarmarsh Road.

DEM was notified about baby raccoons in the roadway on  Eagleville Road at 3:16 pm.

At 6:52 pm, a caller reported vandalism to his boat in the area of 2129 Main Road.

Police responded to Bourne Mill Apartments at 9:10 pm for screaming and shouting in an apartment.

Tuesday, May 25

Callers reported dogs running loose at Town Farm at 8:02 am.

A neighbor dispute was reported (ongoing issue) on Hancock Street at 9:23 am.

Following a warrant check, Lamar Jones, 37, of 2 Main Road, Tiverton, was arrested on two charges of second degree child abuse at 4:13 pm in the area of Pocasset School, 242 Main Road.

Paul J. Perry, 32, 15 Alma Ave., Bristol, was arrested on a bench warrant issued from 6th District Court and on charges of weapons possession (other than a firearm), and driving with a suspended license. The arrest happened after a traffic stop at 8:05 pm on Route 24 south.

Collin A. Gaska, 34, of 14 Peckham Place, Bristol, was arrested on four counts of narcotics possession at 8:09 pm on Route 24 south after a traffic stop.

Terry W. Lewis, 20, of 591 Crandall Road, Tiverton was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge at 11:48 pm on Crandall Road. Police had been called there for a report of a man who allegedly knocked over a mailbox while walking down the road.

Wednesday, May 26

Dylan Tavares, 24, of Riverside, RI, was arrested on three charges of narcotics possession, one count of marijuana possession (over one ounce), and for driving with a suspended license at 2:14 am in the area of 23 Stafford Road.

At 10:46 am, a person was reportedly bitten by a cat on Stoney Hollow Road.

A person selling sculptures by the roadside near Grinnell’s Beach was advised to get a permit at 11:30 am.

Several callers from Hambly Road and Cheryl Drive complained of blasting at 12:32 pm.

Nobody was injured in a two-car accident on Shove Street at 5:03 pm.

A package containing groceries was reported stolen at Cottrell Apartments, 32 Main Road, at 5:59 pm.

A 911 caller notified police of an accident in the area of 837 Bulgarmarsh Road. 

Police reported that a car had apparently struck a sign, then a tree in two separate crashes. The crash claimed the life of a Fall River man (reported in last week’s Sakonnet Times).

Thursday, May 27

George D. Manchester, 49, of 74 Stafford Road, Tiverton, was arrested on a charge of domestic violation of a no-contact order, third offense, at 9:34 am at that address.

At 11:17 am, a kayaker off the bottom of Laura Lane (off Nanaquaket Road) reported finding a life jacket with something attached — they cannot pull it out of the water. Officer found that the life jacket was attached to an anchor.

A resident called at 12:28 pm to report that people repeatedly enter the yard and steal bamboo.

A Robert Gray Avenue resident called at 3:39 pm to report a missing 2-year-old.  A few minutes later, police were notified that “children were found hiding in the house.”

At 4:04 pm, a dog running around the living room apparently set off the burglar alarm at a Crandall Road residence.

A Kearns Avenue resident reported receiving threatening text messages.

Jareyn M. Carroll, 29, of New Bedford, was arrested on a charge of domestic violation of a no-contact order at 7:02 pm in the area of 429 Main Road.

Laura D. Thomas, 21, of Tampa, Florida, was arrested on three charges of narcotics possession, and one charge of marijuana possession (one ounce or less), at 11:29 pm in the area of 1320 Main Road.

Friday, May 28

Michael Navil Girgis, 36, of New Hartford, Conn., was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of liquor and refusal to submit to a chemical test at 2:23 am on Route 24 north at the weigh station.

A Luke Drive resident was bitten on the arm by a dog at 2:49 pm.

Saturday, May 29

Eliseo R. Merced, 34, of Fall River was arrested on a charge of driving with a foreign license while his was suspended at 3:40 am at the Tiverton Casino.

A Tiverton Casino patron reported the theft of a $450 ticket.

Randy T. Audet, 59, of 25 Stafford Road, Tiverton, was arrested on a fugitive from justice charge at 2:18 pm on Stafford Road.

David A. Machado, 46, of Somerset, Mass., was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of liquor, blood alcohol concentration unknown, simple assault, and disorderly conduct at 6:04 pm on Grinnell’s Beach.

At 9:11 pm, police were called to Rocky Avenue for a fireworks complaint.

Daniel K. Doherty, 44, of Fall River, was arrested on a bench warrant from 6th District Court at 10:20 pm in the area of 15 Main Road.

Sunday, May 30

Nobody was injured in a two-car crash at 1:20 am on Route 24 south before the Sakonnet River Bridge.

A South Court resident reported rocks thrown at the house at 5 am.

A large tree fell onto power lines at 4:44 pm in the area of 808 Bulgarmarsh Road.

At 5:17 pm, a vehicle went off Bulgarmarsh Road and onto the sidewalk, took out a mailbox and landed in a ditch. Nobody was hurt.

A water main break in the area of 16 Hillside Ave. left a number of residences without water at 6:43 pm. Stonebridge Water was called to make repairs.

Firefighters responded to a chimney fire at 9:30 pm at 85 Nanaquaket Road. The fire was reported to be out at 9:52 pm but crews stayed to vent smoke from the house.
