To the editor:

To the person who came on our lawn sometime around Halloween day/night and stole our presidential election sign:

What you did is a crime. I have completed a police report and the officer is gathering video from our neighbors. Please know if your identity is established, I will press charges. It is illegal to trespass on someone’s lawn and stealing property is a larceny. We purchased that sign and regardless of whether it cost $25 or $100, it was our property and you stole it. Half the sign has already been found destroyed at the bottom of the street.

It is sad that you didn’t have the emotional maturity to see a sign for a candidate you disagreed with and just acknowledge that your values are different than ours. Instead, you lacked the emotional regulation, got angry and had to lash out by committing a crime. Sad for you; reinforcing for our decision on this election. I don’t know anyone who is going around stealing your candidate's signs.

Regardless of who wins this election, you can be sure I will not resort to destroying someone’s property. Whether I agree or not with an individual’s diverse opinion, the key to a rich community is respecting residents differences. Maybe you should try that next time instead.
