Tough Tiger race returning at Hampden Meadows School

Adventure race serves as key fund-raiser for the Hampden Meadows School PTO

It’s back! After a two-year break, the Tough Tiger adventure race is making a comeback.

The event, which serves as a key fund-raiser for the Hampden Meadows School PTO, offers a fun obstacle course that weaves its way through portions of Hampden Meadows. Previous Tough Tigers have concluded with a dash through a large mud pit.

This year’s race will be held on Sunday, May 22.

“This is a family friendly version of Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Warrior Dash, etc.,” wrote organizers of the Tough Tiger in a recent press release.  This year’s Tough Tiger will feature a 1.5-mile course filled with challenges, obstacles, games, mud, and nature trails. Daniel “Skywalker” Goldstein is serving as the course consultant and obstacle builder; Goldstein is known for his installation works at Burning Man as well as building obstacles for Spartan and other similar races around the world.

In addition to the 1.5-mile course, there will also be an accessible route with alternate choices on obstacles, and a sensory friendly race.

“We have worked hard to make the race this year accessible to all ages and abilities,” wrote organizers.

Registration and bib pickup starts at 10 a.m. on May 22. The sensory race starts at noon, and all other racers will be organized into heats every 10 to 15 minutes, beginning at 12:30 p.m., with the last heat going off at 2:30. In addition to the race, there will be food trucks, music, and entertainment.

Race organizers are urging people to avoid driving in the New Meadow Road, Fireside, Kent Street area during race hours on May 22.
