Deadline approaching for hall nominations

Posted

The deadline to nominate someone for the Barrington Heritage Hall of Fame's inaugural class is quickly approaching.

The Barrington Heritage Hall of Fame, which was recently established in an effort to recognize past and present residents who have made "significant contributions through civic service or philanthropic contributions," has set a Jan. 31 deadline for nominations

Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha is urging residents to take a few minutes and submit a nomination application.

"There's an application online. It only takes five minutes to fill out," he said.

Mr. Cunha was the driving force behind the Barrington Heritage Hall of Fame. He pitched the idea at the October council meeting, stating that the hall would be a great way to build the community spirit.

Mr. Cunha said East Providence has a heritage hall of fame that has grown over the years. He said a recent banquet for the East Providence Heritage Hall of Fame drew more than 400 people.

"I'm hoping this catches on in Barrington," Mr. Cunha said.

Nominations for the inaugural class of the Barrington Heritage Hall of Fame will be reviewed by a 10-member selection committee. It is expected that the inaugural class of inductees will be announced in March and an inductions ceremony will be held in April.
