PORTSMOUTH — VFW Post 5390 in Common Fence Point has a full slate of activities culminating in Monday’s annual Veterans Day ceremony.
First up is a Chili Cook-Off and fund-raiser from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Post hall, 822 Anthony Road.
If you’d like to enter the contest, the fee is $10 per chili entry and $5 per cornbread entry — payable in cash on the day of the event. The event is free for tasters and voters.
Prizes will be awarded in each category for the top chili and cornbread entries. All entries will be judged anonymously; voters will sample, score, and vote by number to keep things fair and square.
Sign up at the canteen or by e-mailing VFWpost5390@gmail.com, or Facebook messaging the VFW Post 5390.
Later that day, from 6-10 p.m., Stu Krous will perform live at the Post hall in a special Veterans Day concert. Veterans are invited to attend without charge, while non-veterans can make a donation of $2 to support VFW Post 5390. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. Food from a special Mexican-style menu will be available for purchase.
A Veterans Day ceremony starts at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will honor all veterans and feature a guest speaker, participation from Boy Scout Troop 1, and other key partners.
The public is welcome to stay for refreshments and a reception after the ceremony, which will conclude at noon.
