An Astronomy Day co-hosted by the Barrington Recreation Dept. and the Astronomical Society of New England will feature solar observing is from 1 to 4:30 p.m., using special telescopes that safely allow viewing of sun spots, the roiling surface of the sun and solar flares shooting out tens of thousands of miles. The evening program is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. View our moon, Saturn with its rings, Jupiter with its moons, and maybe the Andromeda Galaxy and an exploding star.

WHAT: Astronomy Day

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 9 p.m.

WHERE: Barrington Town Hall lawn, 283 County Road

COST: Free and open to the public

MORE INFO: Event is weather dependent and there is no raindate.
