PORTSMOUTH — Volunteers are needed to help repair and rebuild crumbling stone walls on Aquidneck Island, including in Portsmouth.
If you’d like to help retain some of the Island’s most unique features, come to Portsmouth Town Hall, 2200 East Main Road, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, to learn about the details and requirements.
If you decide to volunteer, you’ll be taught by a certified stone wall builder at a two-day Stone Trust training workshop on May 14 and 15.
The Preservation Society and Preserve Rhode Island are partners in the Aquidneck Stone Wall Initiative, which has already restored walls at Simmons Farm and the Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown.
The next project will be the stone walls along Linden Lane at Glen Farm, starting in June. The van Beuren Charitable Foundation has helped fund the efforts.
To volunteer for the project or for more information, e-mail Donna Dunn at ddunn@newportmansions.org.
