Town Clerk: ‘…military and overseas ballots came in by November 12th’

More than a week after Election Day, the vote-count in the Barrington Town Council race continued to change. And it appears the vote-count will impact the final outcome.

On Thursday morning, Nov. 14, the Rhode Island Board of Elections website showed a shift in the race for the third and final Barrington Town Council seat. The newest tally placed Democrat Jordan Jancosek in third place with 4,447 votes and Independent Brian Hughes in fourth place with 4,438 votes.

Just 12 hours earlier, Hughes led Jancosek in the race for the final seat — Hughes had 4,427 votes, while Jancosek had 4,417 votes.

Barrington Town Clerk Merrie DeSisto confirmed that the vote count had changed. In an email to the Barrington Times on Thursday morning, Nov. 14, DeSisto wrote: “I was told that additional military and overseas ballots came in by November 12th and I had 4 manual count ballots that were processed.”

Meanwhile, the Rhode Island Board of Elections was meeting Thursday morning, Nov. 14 to discuss recounts and other information.
