Warren Police Log: Officers assist as lost wallets are returned to rightful owners

The following is a synopsis of Warren Police logs from Monday, Jan. 6-Sunday, Jan. 12:

Monday, Jan. 6
The week started with an act of kindness at around 8:30 a .m. when a wallet was found on Avenue A and returned to its rightful owner.

Tuesday, Jan. 7
Police received a request for a dispersal at a location on Child Street around 2 p.m., the caller requesting an unwanted party was parked in a lot. Upon arrival, the responding officer spoke with a resident, who said it was a woman parked in the lot there to pick up her grandson from the nearby bus stop.

Another instance of a lost wallet was reported to police at just before 4 p.m. also on Child Street. The item was provided to police, who made contact with the owner. The wallet was retrieved about 90 minutes later.

Officers, with the assistance of Cranston PD, made an arrest of a Warren on an outstanding warrant at about 4:30 p.m. Mariah L. Rogers, 20, of 10 Munro Ave., was taken into custody for a warrant of arrest of affidavit.

Wednesday, Jan. 8
A Warren man was arrested on charges of vandalism, resisting legal or illegal arrest and disorderly conduct following an incident on Child Street at around 7:15 a.m. Stephen A. Sylvia, 41, of 366 Child St., Apt. #2nd, was taken into custody after police received a call from a female party saying a male was hitting her window.

Thursday, Jan. 9
At just after 9 a.m., a caller reported damage from a motor vehicle accident on Main Street. The car had struck his residence. The vehicle was unattended and rolled from a gas station lot.

Friday, Jan. 10
Police received a call at just before 5:30 p.m. reporting an accident on Touisset Road. The incident was coined "car vs. deer." No injuries were reported nor did the vehicle's air bags deploy.

Saturday, Jan. 11
At just before 7 p.m., multiple units responded to a breaking-and-entering incident on Parker Avenue. The caller reported seeing flashlights seen inside an abandoned property. Responding units found three juveniles inside the location. They had entered the structure through a door in the rear, which they were unable to reopen once inside. Each of the juveniles was returned to the custody of a parent or guardian. No charges were filed.

Sunday, Jan. 12
An officer was flagged down by two parties on Child Street at just after 4:30 p.m. reporting heavy smoke from a residence in the area. The officer next found the location and made contact with the homeowner, who said the smoke was coming from a faulty boiler. It was turned off with the plan of contacting an oil company at a later time.
