Warren Police Log: Residents 'alarmed' by car, worry about fire pit use during drought

The following is a synopsis of Warren Police logs from Monday, Nov. 4-Sunday, Nov. 10:

Monday, Nov. 4
Officers responded to a domestic call on Campbell Street at 1:16 p.m. A female reported she "was assaulted by her stepfather." Upon arrival, the officers eventually took Sheridan N. Duffy, 41, of 14 Campbell St., into custody on charges of domestic violence - simple assault and/or battery - 1st offense and domestic violence - disorderly conduct - 1st offense. The suspect was arraigned and later released.

At 3:55 p.m., police were called to a Child Street location to answer a call of a civil dispute. Officer were told by a female her daughter used her identity. She
canceled the mother's phone service without permission and now the mother has to pay a fee to turn it back on.

An officer responded to another report of a civil dispute at 4:25 p.m. on Sowamsett Avenue, learning a female gave her canine to a family member for safe keeping for an extended period of time and the family member re-homed the canine. Police made contact with female who is refusing to return the dog.

Tuesday, Nov. 5
Tiverton Police took a suspect into custody at about 9 p.m. on a warrant issued by Warren PD. Ryan Vazquez, 39, of 140 Market St., Warren, is facing charges of domestic violence - family court violation protective order - 1st offense. He was transported to district court for processing.

Wednesday, Nov. 6
Warren Police made their own pick-up of a warrant suspect at 11:24 a.m. on Brown Street. Philip V. Dorlando, 65, of 14 Brown St., Apt. #1, Warren was taken into custody on a fugitive from justice charge. He was transported to Newport District Court for processing.

At about 5 o'clock in the evening, WPD responded to a report of property damage on Nobert Street. A resident identified new damage to her front storm door. party, believing it may have been caused by parties who mistook her residence is an air b&b, which actually belongs to her neighbors. The responding officer did not find any suspicious activity. It was possible the door does not secure properly and appears to be opening with the wind, causing damage.

Thursday, Nov. 7
An employee of a local business entered WPD headquarters at 3 p.m. with a credit card found at their location. The owner of the card was notified and retrieved at about 3:30.

Friday, Nov. 8
It was a busy day for noise complaints as officers responded to three such calls.

On Johnson Street at about 6:15 p.m., a report of a car vehicle alarm was found not to be sounding.

About 15 minutes later, however, upon return to the same location, the vehicle alarm was sounding. Officers made contact with the owner of the car, who is currently out-of-state, and was told arrangements were being made to fix the issue. The alarm later appeared to turn itself off.

The third complaint came from a multi-unit Childs Street resident where a caller reported the party on the second floor was banging on the floor. The responding officer made the party was made aware of the complaint.

Saturday, Nov. 9
Police answered a report of a suspicious person on Vernon Street at just before 3 p.m. A caller said a male party knocked on her door and asked her for money. He also told her his bike broke down on Main Street, where he was last seen walking. The person was estimated to be between 18-20 years old and was wearing a black hat and a green jacket and had a white helmet.

Sunday, Nov. 10
Upon making a motor vehicle stop at 12:33 a.m. on Main Street, officers eventually arrested Grace E. Barile, 24, of 24 Africa St., Apt. #2, Providence, on charges of DUI of liquor - blood alcohol concentration unknown - 1st offense and refusal to submit chemical test.

Later in the morning, at about 11 a.m., police answered an anonymous call for an open burn complaint on Canario Drive. The caller said they were concerned due to the existing red flag warning due to continued drought conditions in the area. The responding officer advised the homeowner of the complaint and found the fire was contained in a small enclosed pit away from any brush with a hose nearby.
