Kylie Decambra scored two goals as the Westport field hockey team shut out Dighton-Rehoboth 4-0 in a home game on Monday afternoon. The win improved the Wildcats’ record to 5-3-1.
Decambra, a sophomore winger, scored on a pass from Maddie Melnyk to give Westport a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. Bella Babb, a sophomore winger, also scored in the first quarter to give Westport an early 2-0 lead.
“The forward line was really in sync today,” said head coach Susie Fontaine. “Maddie assisted on two goals. She was sending solid passes to both her wings who scored.”
Decambra scored again in the second quarter on an assist from Babb. Freshman defender Sophia Rego scored Westport’s fourth goal off a Melnyk rebound to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead before halftime.
Freshman goalkeeper Bri Soares made just two saves to record her third shut out of the season.
“Our all-star player of the game hands down was Bella Babb,” Coach Fontaine said. “She received lots of nice passes from her teammates, successfully carried the ball down the right wing and passed it into scoring position.  The whole team had a fantastic game. Each player contributed to the win.”

Melnyk scores as field hockey team falls to Case 2-1

The Westport field hockey team fell to Case 2-1 in a closely contested away game on Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the Wildcats’ record to 4-3-1 and 2-0 in the MAC.
Playing on the Case softball team’s outfield, Case broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter to go up 1-0.
“Both teams played their hearts out,” said Westport head coach Susie Fontaine. “Case scored with less than three minutes to play. It was an excellent game.”
Westport freshman striker Maddie Melnyk fielded a pass from Bella Babb and blistered it into the goal to knot the score 1-1 less than a minute later. The two teams took the knotted score into the fourth quarter.
Freshman goalkeeper Bri Soares made six saves during the game. The Wildcats play three games this week, with ten left to go in the season.
They face Dighton-Rehoboth, Fairhaven and travel to Wareham on Thursday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.
