Carlton 'Cukie' Macomber could tell a good yarn. On Sunday, it's the South Coast's turn to tell a few about the late Westport Point resident, who passed away earlier this year.
The Dartmouth Historical & Arts Society will celebrate memory of the much-loved and admired story teller this coming Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the Russells Mills Schoolhouse. The event is part of its Sunday Afternoon lecture series and will be moderated by Howard Gifford, a long-time friend and co-worker of Macomber's.
Said the society's Robert E. Harding: "We all have many fond memories of the tales so wonderfully presented over the years at the schoolhouse by our dear friend. So many of these stand out it is difficult to single any one presentation. One among many of those memorable times was when he explained his personal history of ‘dowsing’ for water and demonstrated at the schoolhouse and instructed beginners in the art of dowsing. Several among the patrons in the crowd attending the event doubted their own experience of actually feeling the tug on the twig ‘dowsing rods’ utilized. Others did not experience the pull."
Light refreshments will be served, all are welcome, and a $5 donation is suggested.
